Woody NeRoy Pugh, 68, of Webster Springs, WV peacefully entered Heaven on Friday August 20, 2021 with loved ones by his side at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.  Woody was born in Buckhannon, WV on the 4th of July 1953 to U.N. “Sleepy” Pugh and Willa Bickel Pugh of Hacker Valley.

Woody was a proud lifelong resident of Webster County.  He was a graduate of Webster Springs High School class of 1971 where he was a standout member of the Wildcat football team.  Woody attended West Virginia Institute of Technology where he studied Forestry.  He worked in the logging business with his father for several years and had 27 years of service with the WV Department of Natural Resources as a park aide at Holly River State Park.  Woody was a memorable part of the park for most campers.

He was a member of the Webster Springs City Council for many years and was a Master Mason serving as Master of the Lodge at Webster Springs.  He enjoyed hunting, cooking, canning, playing with his cats, and of course talking with old and new friends.

Woody was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Debby Stone.  He is survived by his loving wife of almost 29 years, Virginia Riffle Helmick Pugh; step-sons Ofie (Lisa) Helmick of Fairmont, WV and Scott (Malinda) Helmick of New Martinsville, WV; a special granddaughter Lesley (Adam) Cline of Buckhannon, grandson Christopher Helmick of Sunhill, WV, granddaughters Ginny (Josh) McCumbers of Servia, Khloe Helmick, & Addisyn Helmick of New Martinsville, WV along with several great-grandchildren.

Sister Doretta Osburn of Nashville, TN;  Brother-in-law David Stone of Anderson, SC; nephew Adam (Hilah) Stone of Spartanburg, SC; niece Lauren Osburn of Nashville, TN; and a special group of devoted and trusted friends Tracy Chips, Cynthia Barbe, Stephanie Hamrick and Penny Nicholson.
