Shirley Lou Wright, a remarkable woman whose life was a testament of love, family, and cherished moments, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2023, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia.She was born on July 21, 1948, at Charleston General Hospital to her parents, Edith and Doyle Mills. Shirley was a loving sister to Genevieve Selman, Margaret Fletcher, Jack Mills, John Mills, Boyd Mills, James Mills and Robert Mills. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry Wright, brother Jack Mills, sister Genevieve Selman and son Russell Wright.

Shirley’s life was a tapestry of love and shared experiences. She found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and forging connections with nature that were profound and lasting. Her gift for canning and quilting produced treasured heirlooms. Her garden, brimming with fragrant roses, was a testament to her green thumb. She cherished moments spent with friends and family, creating memories that will be forever etched in their hearts.

Shirley had a special fondness for her little dogs, who brought boundless joy into her life. Her love for roses, her favorite flower, symbolized her appreciation for life’s beauty in both the small and grand moments.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love through her children; Russell and Julie Wright of Cowen, Connie and Paul Garretson of Cowen, Patricia and Paul Gordon of Walker, WV, Mary Wright and Rafael Martinez of Texas, Lucinda and Steven Myers of Cowen and grandchildren, Austin Wright, Alexis Wright, William and Roxie Wright, Melissa and Steven Miller, Christina and Robert Moven, Stephanie and Cody Heaster, Whittney and Gary Lucas, Tiffany Myers, Oscar and Peyton Martinez, Ricardo and Audrey Martinez, Luisa and Patrick Dorn, Wesley and Anita Wells, Amber Wells, Paul Jr. and Melissa Gordon, Michael Gordon, Morgan Gordon, and Early Gordon. Shirley is also survived by twenty-one great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place on September 19, 2023 from 5 to 7pm at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen, WV. A burial ceremony will be held at Mills Mountain Cemetery on September 20, 2023 at 2pm, with Brother Larry Armentrout officiating.
