Richard B. Thayer, 62, of Walkersville, WV, formerly of Cowen, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Mon Health Center after a short illness. He was born February 21, 1961, the son of the late Paul Thayer and Charlotte Litzinger Thayer.

Rick was a graduate of Webster County High School. He worked for the Division of Highways for many years in Webster County before moving to Walkersville. He was in the West Virginia Citizens Defense League. Rick was very active and supportive of the youth in Webster County having coached many years of little league baseball, football, and basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lisa Thayer.

Rick is survived by his wife, Janet Thayer; daughter, Jennifer Kidd (Bo) of Shadyside, OH; sons, Jospeh Thayer (Brittany) of Cowen, Jacob Thayer (Samantha) of Clarksburg, Marshall Snyder of Weston, and Ben Snyder (Caroline) of Morgantown; brother, David (Dona Dyer) Thayer; sisters, Karen (Phil) Webb, Mary Sue Thayer, and Barbara (Bill) Snyder; and grandchildren, Henry Kidd, Holly Snyder, Milo Snyder, Emma Kidd, and Silas Thayer.

Services will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 4:30pm at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen, WV with Pastor Mark Hardway officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:30pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Ricks wishes for cremation will be honored.
