Phyllis’s wishes for cremation have been honored. There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 6, 2024 @ 4:00 pm, with brother Larry Armentrout officiating at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Phyllis Kay Hoke, 53, of Cowen went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 18, 2023 after a short illness at CAMC Memorial Hospital. She was born September 22, 1970 in Ohio, a daughter of the late James Gale Mathes, Sr. and Dorotha Mae Woods/Hall.

Phyllis graduated from Webster County High School. She was a cook for all the patrons at Ymart. Phyllis loved the Lord and was a Christian for over 23 years. She enjoyed volunteering and helping others.

Surviving is her husband, Merideth Alan Hoke; children, Travis (Rachel) Hoke of Webster Springs, Kayla (Jonathan) Feagans, Dakota Hoke and Ryan Hoke all of Cowen; brothers Rex (Cindy) Wright and Joe Wright both of Cowen; sisters, Sherry (Jeff) Bowman of Birch River, Judy (Keith) Burgi of Texas; grandchildren, Devin and Gavin Hoke; nieces and nephews, Josh (Atasha) Bowman, Abby Bowman, Joseph Wright, Kia (Dalton) Davis, Reese Davis, Rosie Wright, Josh (Betsy) Hoke, Shane (Erica) Chaffin, Jorja Holcomb, Kenny (Breanna) Holcomb, Chad (Marina) Hoke, Michael (Ashton) Ellison, Brittany Jones and many, many more nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children and her brother, James Gale Mathes, Jr.
