Services to honor Marie’s life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Upperglade Presbyterian Church, Upperglade, WV. With Rev. Robert “Bob” Bondurant officiating. Burial will follow at West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin, WV. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00pm until the time of service Saturday at the Church.

Mrs. Gothard was my entrance into education. She was my first teacher. I loved her so much. She was warm, caring, and made me want to go to school. I believe that she is the first in a long line of teachers who led me down the path of teaching. I am a high school teacher in Lexington, KY, now. I often reflect on her kindness as a model for my own teaching. I am very blessed to have been in her class.

Heaven gained the angel that taught us so much here on earth. Marie was my mentor at church and as a colleague. She was the epitome of love in all areas of her life. She touched so many hearts with her love and compassion. God bless Starlette, Lance, and Les.❤️🙏🙏❤️

I am deeply saddened to hear about Marie. I wish that I could’ve met her and her sister Lynda, who I met thru Facebook. They were cousins on my dad’s side. My deepest condolences and prayers for her family🙏🙏🙏

Starlet/Lance Very sorry to hear your mother has died. We considered your parents friends. The were always good neighbors and helped us in many ways. Your mother was always one our most encouraging teachers at Glade and most helpful to me when I was principal. I considered your father a special mentor when I began teaching/coaching. she was my kindergarden teacher at the old white school house on the hill below the house she touch many childrens lives over the many years of teaching in Cowen,WV rest in piece my favorite teacher you have earned your reward will be missed her family, church family and the entire community
