Colleen Joy Snyder, 81, of Cowen, passed away on December 24, 2023, at home after an extended illness. Joy was born on April 3, 1942, in Coe, WV the daughter of the late Denver and Carrie Hammons Short.

Joy married Lowell Snyder in 1958. They were married for 57 years. She attended Cowen High School and was a dedicated medical records clerk for Webster Continuous Care Center for 16 years. She attended Walnut Grove Community Church and loved her church family very much. Joy enjoyed walking and running, especially at Big Ditch Lake and at age 43 she accomplished running just over 31 miles in 8 hours, 15 minutes in a Big Ditch Lake Endurance Race. She also enjoyed baking and making candy for special occasions. She was well-known for her peanut butter candy. Joy relished spending time with her family and enjoyed camping and vacationing at the beach or in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Surviving are her son Mike (Cheryl) Snyder of Niskayuna, New York, and daughter Michele (Wally) Nutter of Cowen; siblings Darrell Short, Linda Newhouse, Vic Short and Zeff Carpenter; grandchildren, Todd (Stephanie) Snyder, Katie (Zach) Tonkin, Cody (Jamie) Nutter, Brittlyn Nutter and Paisley Nutter; and great grandchildren Jay Snyder, Carter and Bennett Tonkin, and Vivian and Emma Joy Nutter.

In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Snyder, brothers, Alvin, Dana, Denny, Alden, and Donald Short.

Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Steve Phillips officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen.
