Virginia Diane Cochran Forbes, 69 of Cowen, passed away suddenly at her residence on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. She was born on July 3, 1948, in Richwood, WV, a daughter of the late James Edward and Wanda Dunlap Cochran.

Diane retired from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and was currently working at the Cowen Public Library. She was a graduate of Cowen High School, and received an English Degree from Glenville State College and a degree in Library Studies from Marshall University.

Diane was a devoted Christian and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she also served as a lay speaker. She was very active in the community serving as a member of the Senior Citizen’s Board, honorary member of the Webster County Fair Board, Secretary/Treasurer of the Cowen High School Alumni Committee, working with the Food Pantry and leading PB&J at Circle Brooke Manor. She was a member of Delta Zeta. She truly loved helping the community and working with children who all loved her dearly.

She was an avid reader, loved playing the piano and tap dancing. She enjoyed the beach and collecting shells. Diane crocheted blankets and hats to provide to cancer patients.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Erica Missy (Becky) Forbes of Summersville, Kelly Forbes (Jerry Dornburg) of Cowen, and Lindsey Forbes (Michael Clendenin) of Lynchburg, Va; Sister Pam Wyatt of Cowen, Brothers: Tim (Sue) Cochran of Cowen, Doug (Rose) Cochran of Cowen, Mike (Sue) Cochran of Cowen; Grandchildren, Taylor Cogar, Whitney Cogar, Jacob Cogar, Brennen Williams and Brielle Williams and numerous nieces and nephew. Her companion, Lily the cat and several granddogs and grandcats.

In addition to her parents, son Jay Forbes preceded her in death.

Service will be held Sunday, September 10,2017 at 1:30 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Cowen. Friends may call from 11:30am until time of the service at the church.
