Katherine Elizabeth “Kitty” Brinson, 84, of Cowen, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 17, 2022 after a brief illness.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  Kitty was born January 14, 1938, in Fayetteville, WV, daughter of the late Kessley Clyde and Attie Elizabeth Boardwine.

She is survived by her son David (Angella) Brinson of Cowen; grandchildren Sherry Yates of Cowen; Kimberly Sill of Cowen; Ashley (Ryan) Funk of Summersville, WV; Chad (Tiffany) Brinson of Cowen; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ethan, Annalise and Landon; Survivors also include sister Diana (Ron) Wright of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother James Boardwine of Jackson, MI; along with a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, Kitty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years Ellis Macon “Red” Brinson; son Gary W. Yates; daughter in law Rebecca “Becky” Yates; grandson Gary W. Yates II; and sister Lula M. “Beanie” Withrow.

Kitty and Red were in business for nearly 40 years as the owners of The Cotton Ball and Brinson’s Furniture in Cowen, WV.  More than anything, Kitty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Nothing brought her more happiness than the presence of her grandchildren and later in life, her sweet great grandbabies.  She was a Christian by faith and attended Sand Run Baptist Church for many years where she served as a Sunday school teacher.  She shared many fond memories of the ornery boys in her class and every one of them ended with a huge smile and laugh.  Kitty loved to cook for her family and was well known for her “farm” breakfast.  She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by those left to cherish her memory.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen, with Pastor Keith Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
