Services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Jimmy Aleshire officiating. Burial will follow in Boggs Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home.

Evelyn Agnes Boggs, 102, of Cowen, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Summersville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1914 in Dyer, WV, a daughter of the late William and Lillian Simons.

She worked her way through college in Fairmont by working as a live-in housekeeper and nanny. She then taught school for 29 years in the Cowen area. She began her teaching career at Barnette Run School in 1937 and continued there until 1939. She then took off a few years and returned to teaching in 1947, teaching English, Social Studies and Elementary Education. She taught in the elementary grades and special education until her retirement in 1972.

She was an active member of the Cowen Garden Club through her 98th birthday. She was also a member the Retired Teacher’s Association, the Cowen Railroad Festival, and the Webster County Fair where she worked in the Antiques Dept. She was an inductee of the Cowen Railroad Festival Hall of Fame. She loved working in her garden and with her flowers.

Evelyn was also an author, she completed a book of her own poetry, and one of her poems is inscribed on the plaque at the Veteran’s Memorial in Cowen.

She is survived by her grandson, Larry Joe Boggs, granddaughter Rhonda Boggs; great-grandchildren Joey, Nicole, Logan, Franklin, and Kendra and three great, great-grandchildren and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Boggs; Son Ronnie and daughter-in-law Linda Boggs; Brothers, Junior, John, and Eddie; Sisters, Gray, Jeanette, and Martha.
