Alden Dewayne Varney, a life long resident of Webster County, WV, passed on August 26, 2021 at the age of 74. He was born in Buckhannon, WV on August 23, 1947 and was the son of the late Herbert Alden Varney and surviving mother; Ollie Alice Gregory Varney.
Dewayne was a coal miner and educator. He served in the 4th Infantry Division “Ivy” of the United States Army in Vietnam. His tour of duty was in Pleiku in the Central Highlands region of Vietnam. He graduated from Shepherd College with a degree in education.
Dewayne enjoyed spending time with his family and was completely devoted to his daughter and grandsons. He had a great sense of humor with a big laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Paula Perrine Varney; his daughter Amy Varney (Howard) Gamble; his grandsons Andrew Philip Gamble and Harrison Paul Gamble of Wheeling, WV; his mother Ollie Varney and his brother Rex Allen Varney of Craigsville, WV.
