Robert D. “Puffy” Crites, 83, of Erbacon, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at Summersville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born January 15, 1941 in Erbacon, a son of the late Ralph Tharp and Lena Crites Johnson.

Puffy was a retired coal miner with 45 years of faithful service. He worked at Island Creek, Brooks Run, Wolf Creek and Lexie Coal Company. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. When he wasn’t outside, you could find him in the garage tinkering on something. He was so proud of his grandsons for working and taking care of their families and the apples of his eyes were his great-grandchildren who he loved dearly. Robert was a Christian by Faith.

Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Jean Crites, children, Sue (Mike) Cochran of Williams River and Connie (Johnny) Johns of Craigsville, sisters, Barbara (Neil) Tourangeau of Maryland and Delma (David) Smith of Virginia, grandsons, Brock (Tara) Adams and JimBob (Alicia) Cochran, great-grandchildren, Addy Adams, Mattie Cochran and Drew Adams and many other extended family, friends and co-workers made over the years.

In addition to his parents, son, Robby Crites and brother, Eugene Crites preceded him in death.
