Mary Margaret Vanscoy

Mary Margaret Vanscoy, passed away on May 16, 2025 after an extended illness at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. She was born on October 11, 1944, in Cowen the daughter of the late John Heck and the late Kate Claypool Heck.

Mary was a 1964 graduate of Cowen High School; she had been a clerk for Hortons Market.

Mary was a devoted Christian and loved spending time outdoors, tending to her flower beds. She enjoyed crafts, decorating wreaths, and speeding time with her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Mary Arthur of Huntington, WV, sister Anna Miller of Scott Depot and her grandchildren Hunter and Emma; family, Mark (Shawnda) Miller of Scott Depot and Anna Heck of Scott Depot, Ann Payne of Scott Depot and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Vanscoy, and brothers, Densil, Junior, and Paul Heck.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Pastor David Terry officiating. Burial will follow at The Odd Fellows Cemetery in Cowen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at Morris Funeral Home.
