Bernard William Mathes

Bernard William Mathes, 73, of Meadow Fork Road, Cowen, passed away at Webster Memorial Hospital on November 16, 2024, after a short illness. He was born on January 7, 1951, in Richwood, the son of Grover William Mathes and Helen Corene Powers Mathes.

Bernard Graduated in 1969 from Cowen High School. He was previously employed by Island Creek, Majestic and Wolf Creek mining companies.

In Bernards spare time, he enjoyed watching westerns, and football, hunting, gardening, and farming.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Arletta Williams Mathes; children, Kalenn (Lisa) Nemoto of Summersville and Sara Mathes (Brian Griffith) of Beckley; brother, Jim (Liz) Mathes of Cowen; and grandchildren, Jaden Nemoto Huffman, Korey Nemoto, Gabriel Griffith, and Laiken Griffith; niece, Lisa Fleming and nephew, Jimmy Mathes.

Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen with Rev Keith Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Cowen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
