Alyssa “Lyss” Deann McCartney

Alyssa “Lyss” Deann McCartney, 15, of Cowen, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at her residence. She was born September 19, 2009 in Summersville, a daughter of Patrick Wayne and Kathryn Louise Laferty McCartney.

Alyssa was a ninth grade student at Webster County High School. She enjoyed playing softball for the Cowen Royals, basketball, cheerleading, traveling, reading, riding motorcycles with her dad, hanging out with friends and making people laugh and watching beautiful sunsets. But most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was daddy’s girl and mommy’s world and Aunt Sam’s little princess.

In addition to her loving parents she is survived by brothers, Riley McCartney, Paidon McCartney, Colten McCartney, extended family, Mike Copley, Michael (Carter and Thea) Malcomb, Matthew (Shalee) Malcomb, Joshua Malcomb, Christine Copley, paternal grandfather, Luther McCartney, maternal grandmother, Juanita Lafferty, uncles, Jonathon McCartney, James (Nicole) McCartney, Daniel Lafferty and Cody Myers aunts, Whitney (Chris) Ledsome, Samantha Lafferty, great-grandmother, Kathryn Myers, great aunt, Kattie Bailey, great uncle, Daris Holcomb, cousins, Zaylah Ledsome, Brantley McCartney, Kaylee McCartney, Ryder McCartney, bonus moms, Amy Bennett, Brittney Ritchie, dogs, Rusty, Diesel and many other family and friends.

Her paternal grandmother, Betty McCartney and maternal grandfather, Mark Laferty preceded her in death.

Service will be held at 4:00pm. Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00pm until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
