Wilma Ward, 82, of Cowen, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the Webster Healthcare Center on December 4, 2025, after an extended illness. Born on November 12, 1943, in Allingdale, West Virginia, Wilma was a devoted homemaker and held her faith as a Baptist close to her heart.
Wilma's life was characterized by her deep love for her family, particularly her grandchildren, whom she cherished and proudly kept in line. She found joy in spending time with them and creating lasting memories. The laughter shared during karaoke sessions, quiet moments spent gardening, and exciting family camping trips defined her engaging spirit. She enjoyed a simple pleasure, whether it was having a beer, fishing, or scratching lottery tickets.
Wilma is survived by her loving daughter, Cathy Lewis and her husband Tim of Bolair, WV; her son, Jeff Ward and his companion Tonya Christianson of Alaska; and her beloved grandchildren: William Bragg and his wife Ashley of Craigsville; Jessica Lawhorn and her husband Steven of Oak Hill; Jacob Lesson II of Summersville; and Amber Walton and her husband Anthony of Levisay. Additionally, she is the proud grandmother to many great-grandchildren including Tayllor Ward, Katana Ward, Jessi Ward, Ashby Brown, Kahli Woods, Grant Leeson, Ben Cogar, Mollie Cogar, Mark Lawhorn, Ellie Kate Lawhorn, Tyler Leeson, Jessa Leeson, Jacob Leeson III, Oren Ritchea, Abigal Walton, and Axle Walton. Wilma was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren, Zaygen Bragg, Asher Bragg, Logan Carpenter, Lilly Carpenter, and Charlie Wine, her companion from Braxton County, WV.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ray Ward; her father, Elbert O. Williams; her mother, Arilla Frances Ward Williams; her sister, Ruth Young; her sister, Elizabeth Urban; and her granddaughter, Brenna Bragg.
Service will be held at 12:00pm Saturday December 13, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Jim Varney officiating. Burial will follow at the Mtn. Trail Cemetery, Craigsville. A Gathering of family and friends will be from 10:30 until the time-of-service Saturday at the funeral home.
Wilma’s legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
