William "Rosco" Rose

William "Rosco" Rose, 83, of Cowen, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026.

Born on April 18, 1943, in Webster County, West Virginia, Rosco was the son of the late Eugene "Gene" Rose and Arlice Barnett "Lucy" Rose. He graduated from Cowen High School with the Class of 1961. Following graduation, he traveled to Ohio, where he met Charlotte, his wife. Together they built a family and shared many years of marriage before her passing.

Rosco proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years aboard the USS Vulcan. After his military service, he resided in Pennsylvania and Ohio, but returned to West Virginia, where he made his home and worked for more than 30 years in the coal mining industry, along with several other occupations throughout his life. He was known for his strong work ethic, resourcefulness, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

In his spare time, Rosco enjoyed tinkering with old vehicles and searching for unique treasures while antiquing. He found great satisfaction in repairing, restoring, and giving new life to things others might have overlooked. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Rosco is survived by his daughters, Lauri (David) Spence and Heather Smith (James Petrey), all of Cowen; brothers, Arnold "Claude" Rose and Edward Rose; his sisters, Kay Reisz, Patricia Rose, and Catherine Vance; his grandchildren, Holly Rose, Christopher Rose, Andrew Rose, Phillip Rose, Aaron Rose, Thomas Spence, Amber Spence, Valerie Smith, Megan Smith, and Alexa Holcomb; 15 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Rose; his sons, Charles Eugene Rose and William Rosco Rose, Jr; his parents, Eugene "Gene" and Arlice "Lucy" Rose; and his siblings, Argel K. Rose, Emol F. Rose, Phillip N. Rose, Eugene Roger Rose, Carolyn "Cookie" Goldsmith, Francis L. Rose, and Richard L. Rose.

Rosco will be remembered for his quiet strength, his hardworking spirit, his love of family, and his ability to fix just about anything. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched throughout the years.

In keeping with Rosco's wishes, there will be no services.
