William Edward “Bill” Mccartney

William Edward “Bill” McCartney, 72 of Cowen, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends, after a long illness. He was born May 8, 1947 in Webster Springs, a son of the late French and Retha Peck McCartney.

Bill was a former City Councilman for the town of Cowen and a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a former employee of Cutlip’s and Moutain Cap of WV.  He was a member of the Nicholas and Webster County Search and Rescue.  He was the current president of the Cowen Search and Rescue. Bill enjoyed taking his sons fishing and having them in the outdoors. He loved tinkering and working on vehicles and watching wrestling.

Surviving are his children, Alex McCartney of Cowen, Jonathan McCartney of Cowen, Anthony “Tony” McCartney of Cowen, Benjamin of Nitro, Shelly of North Carolina and Billy of Webster Springs, siblings, Bonnie Wolf, Judy Green, Kenny McCartney, Dale McCartney, Mack McCartney, James McCartney and Virginia , grandchildren, Zeke McCartney, Jadin McCartney, Gabrela McCartney, Zena McCartney, Dalton Ray McCartney and Dalton Christopher McCartney and great grandson Oliver Wilson and many other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, son James McCartney preceded him in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30pm. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Father Romeo Bacalso officiating. Friends may call from 11:30 until time of service.  Burial with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #62 will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen, WV.
