Sharon Kay (Beale) Mathes, 72, of Cowen, West Virginia went home to be with the lord and her husband, Bill, along with her parents, siblings, and family. She was reunited with them on February 15, 2021. Her passing was due to complications of Dementia/Alzheimers. She left her earthly body surrounded by loved ones at her home.

A 1966 graduate of Cowen High School, after graduating Sharon, along with her husband, went to Ohio to work. Sharon worked at multiple jobs prior to finding employment for the state of Ohio at Apple Creek Hospital. Sharon continued in this career choice for more than 10 years. She had so much compassion for the residents of the state hospital that on occasion she would bring home a resident with her that didn’t have family. She returned to Cowen in the beginning 0f 1988, after her husband became disabled. She and Bill purchased and operated a small county store in Erbacon, West Virginia during the early 1990’s. She enjoyed that small store. She loved the customers as her own family and spoke lovingly of them in her last years. She held multiple jobs here in Cowen but the ones she spoke so fondly of were the ones where she provided in-home healthcare for the elderly. She had such love and devotion for those individuals. Her biggest joy and love was for her family. Her family was her sole purpose on this earth. She was the first to sacrifice her needs for the needs of her family. She was her husband’s sole care provider in his final years. She supported her family with encouragement, financially, and spiritually in prayer. She was the family matriarch.

She enjoyed camping, cooking, and quilting. She loved listening to gospel music; and it brought her peace in her final days.

She is preceded in death by husband, William J. “Billy Jo” Mathes, Parents, Oscar M. and Cora M. (Williams) Beale, Sisters Violet M. Burns and Wilma J. Mortland, brothers Kennith, Harold, and Paul D. Beale.

She is survived by daughters Kimberly L. Mathes of Cowen, Patti (Raymond) Short of Cowen, Grandchildren Jonathon (Kayla) Feagans, Ashlea Mathes of Cowen, KasSandra (Daniel) Givens of Cowen, Katie and Jessi Short of Cowen, great grandchildren Colden Tyree, Kaylee Giles, Andy Givens, Austin Givens, and another one on the way. Niece Phyllis (Mike) Manning of Doylestown, Ohio, nephew Edward (Vickie) Burns of Hartville, Ohio.

Sharon’s wishes for cremation have been honored with no services at this time.
