Roger William Hollandsworth

Roger William Hollandsworth, 81 years old, closed his eyes on earth and entered paradise on January 12, 2026, at his home along the Birch River. He was a lifelong resident of Webster County.

He was a hard worker. He was certified welder, log truck driver, and coal truck driver. He was a school bus driver for the Webster County Board of Education. He and his brother Harold owned a filling station in Cowen. He was an underground coal miner for Sewell Coal Company for many years.

He was a man of many talents—a fixer of everything. Those strong hands were always busy. He was an auto repairman who did autobody work and auto painting. He could rebuild engines, transmissions, and any other part of a vehicle. He was a die-hard Ford man. He was an excellent welder and could do carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and working with his tractor, as well as camping, boating, fishing—especially brook trout fishing—and hunting.

More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his three granddaughters, Amber, Megan and Madison. He adored and doted on his granddaughters. He was so proud of them and loved them endlessly. He was a wonderful grandpa. He enjoyed family time get togethers for cookouts or playing games like horseshoes, cornhole, uncivilized croquet, bocci ball, basketball, cards, or anything else his grandchildren wanted him to do. Many of my very favorite memories were made in that yard. Life with him was never boring. He knew how to have fun. He found happiness and joy in his life.

Not only was he handy and a hard worker, but he was also kind, generous, and always willing to lend a hand without ever expecting anything in return. If you called him for help, he would say, I’ll be right there. He was always early; he never liked to be late. If he said 8:00, you had better be ready at 7:30. He rarely asked for help but was always willing to help family, friends, and strangers. He had compassion. He was an animal lover. He was a giver, even in times when he didn’t have much to give. He was a happy man who had an unforgettable laugh. He was a lover of life. He was funny and ornery, a man of his word, a man with integrity, and a fierce protector of his family whom he loved with all his heart.

He was a Christian and a member of Emmanuel Assembly of God for over 20 years, trusting in God's word even in the most trying times. His enduring faith and love for God bring us peace that he is experiencing the Glory of God in heaven and that we will see him again.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Russell Hollandsworth, his son Craig (Tammy) Hollandsworth, his daughter Denise (Jimmy) Hamrick. His granddaughters Megan and Madison Hamrick. He was preceded in death by his parents Rexal and Opal Hollandsworth. His granddaughter Amber Hollandsworth. His brother Harold (Rosa) Hollandsworth and sister Sue Wright.
