Richard James Harris, 62, of Erbacon passed away due to a sudden illness on December 28, 2024. He was born in Braxton County on December 25, 1962, to James “Bill” William Green and the late Thelma Harris Green.

Richard worked in the coal mines for 23 years. He has been a faithful and committed member of the Erbacon Volunteer fire department since February 18, 1985. Richard was the elected fire chief for six years.

Before becoming disabled, Richard loved to fish, hunt and enjoyed camping every summer along the Gauley River with his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Green.

Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and wife of 39 years, Fleshia, and his baby dog Lilly; father, Bill; and brothers Kennith and Robert; and sister, Carolyn, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Richard will be greatly missed by his loving wife, his dog Lilly, Richard’s family, Fleshias family, the members of the Erbacon Fire Department and the entire Erbacon Community.

Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen with Pastor Marsha Crites officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Erbacon. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
