Retha Hall, born August 11, 1936, in Erbacon, WV, passed away with grace on July 16, 2026, at Summersville Healthcare Center following an extended illness. She leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and devotion.
A proud Air Force veteran, Retha served our nation from 1954 to 1956. She broke ground at the Monongahela Power Company, serving as the first woman in the construction section and spending 24 years as a dedicated clerk / stock room lead.
Retha's dedication extended beyond her professional life. As an elder of the Upper Glade Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of the Cowen Rebekah Lodge #105 and in the Order of the Eastern Star of West Virginia, she exemplified community spirit and leadership. Her passions included bowling, gardening, and her cherished pets.
Retha is lovingly remembered by her children, Michael Holcomb of Erbacon and Linda (Russell) Johnson of Craigsville, as well as her granddaughter, Miranda Johnson (Aaron Kelley). She joins in rest her first husband, Forrest Mathes; her second husband, Wayford Hinton Hall; brothers, Adrian "Jack" Holcomb and Ray Clinton "Mike" Holcomb and parents, Clayburn "Jack" and Lela Holcomb.
Retha’s wishes for cremation have been honored, and no services will be held.
Retha wished for any memorial contributions to be made to local animal shelters or activities at the Summersville Healthcare Center.
