Patricia Carolyn Miller

Patricia Carolyn Miller, born Patricia Carolyn Tyler, passed away on September 27, 2026, after an extended illness. She was born on February 7, 1936, in Arcola, and throughout her life remained deeply connected to the people and places of Webster County.

A 1955 graduate of Cowen High School, Patricia devoted much of her life to serving her community. She worked for the Webster County Board of Education as a secretary, custodian and a teacher's aide for 45 years. Even after retirement, her care for children and her school community continued, and she returned to Glade Elementary to volunteer in the office and read with students. Her steady presence and willingness to help made a lasting difference to many.

Patricia’s life was marked by service, energy, and love for her hometown. She was a 4-H leader for the Rise and Shine club for many years. Patricia was a devoted Christian being active in Cornerstone Covenant Church. You could often find her singing hymns in church, at revivals or with her family. She helped organize and form the Cowen Railroad Festival and served as the pageant director for many years. She also helped to bring the ambulance service into Cowen and helped start the Cowen newspaper. She loved to talk about Cowen and Webster County and was always ready to promote the beauty of the area and the goodness of its people.

She found joy in caring for others in both large and small ways. She loved to cook, bake, make crafts, tend flowers, raise funds for St. Jude’s, and help with the bikeathon. She was truly a jack of all trades, and many will lovingly remember that no one could resist her chicken and biscuits, granny’s jelly, pumpkin rolls and cornflake holly wreaths. These gifts, shared so freely, became part of the comfort and happiness she brought to family, friends, and neighbors alike.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, E>G> Jack Miller, son's Tommy Miller and Mark Miller.  She was also proceeded in death by her parents Delbert and Audrey Tyler and siblings, Kenneth Tyler, Emaleen Starcher, Wanda Gadd and Keith Tyler.

She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Mullens and Carolyn’s husband, Roger, of Cowen; her daughter Robin Ralieghand Robin’s husband, Joe, of Morgantown; and her son Johnny Miller and Johnny’s wife, Sandy, of Cowen. She is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Robinson, Deb Tyler, Jerry Tyler and David Tyler. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as by several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were brightened by her warmth, generosity, and deep love for her community.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Covenant Church, 6075 Webster Road, Cowen, West Virginia 26206. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Covenant Church, with Rev. Phillip Hickman officiating. Burial will follow at the Dunlap/Miller Cemetery on Williams River Road in Cowen.
