Olen Kent Selman, age 87, of Cowen, West Virginia, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Summersville Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 8, 1938, in Webster County, a son of the late Bessie (Long) and Rufus Selman. Olen was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Dale Selman and brothers, Doy, Darrell, Ellis, Arnold, Carl, Don, sisters, Opal, Ruby and Dorothy.
Olen spent most of his working life employed at Leslie Brothers Equipment, where he was known as a dedicated and dependable worker. Outside of work, music was one of his greatest passions. He loved playing the banjo, preformed in several bands over the years, and greatly enjoyed giving banjo lessons to others. Earl Scruggs was his favorite banjo player and a major influence on his love for bluegrass music. Olen also had a great love for his dogs and took great joy in teaching them tricks and spending time with them. He was raised in a large family on Barnett Run, a place that always held special meaning to him.
He is survived by his children, Tammy Lynn Skidmore and husband Rodney, and Timothy Kent Selman and wife Kimberly, and grandchildren, Timothy Scott Selman and Dallas Kent Selman.
In keeping with Olen's wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be held.
