Norma Eloise Smith, 88, of Cowen, WV went home to walk with loved ones in heaven on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at CAMC in Charleston, WV. She was surrounded by her loving children and will forever live in her family’s memories and love.

Norma was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a loving child born to June Cogar on June 26, 1936 and is preceded in death by her husband E.G. “Turp” Smith. Her love and caring for others extended beyond her family and friends through her work as a LPN and RN at several of the local hospitals. After graduating from the Beckley School of Nursing and becoming licensed as a LPN, she continued to work full time to support her family as she completed the nursing program at Davis and Elkins College. She would go on to become a RN and worked at both Sacred Heart Hospital in Richwood, WV and SRMC in Summersville, WV. Through this work she was a respected professional that touched the lives of her patients and the people she worked with. Her family has been told by her previous patients and their families how compassionate and caring Norma was, but her true love and purpose in life was to make sure that her sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were happy, loved, and always knew she was there for them. Every member of the family has a memory of Norma being at their special event, making them smile, and supporting them when needed.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Sharon (Roger) Hosey, Frank (Vicki) McCourt, Marsha (Darrell) Crites, Francine McCourt, James McCourt, Rodney Smith, Daniel (Stephanie) Smith and Waymon McCourt. She is also survived by her grandchildren Colton Smith, Austin Smith, Roger Hosey II, Becky Copley, Cassandra Cogar, Franklin McCourt, Tiffany Donato, Douglas Crites, Jason Henline, Timothy Workman, Elizabeth Short, Joseph Short, Brooke Coots, Josh Cochran, Whitney Allen, Chris Smith, Kim Smith, Stacie Robinson, Marissa Thomas, Victoria Sampson, Gracie Billlanti, Riley Crites, Kaleigh Crites, Hallie Crites, Haden Cogar, Chase Cogar, Trenton Cogar, Quinton Henline, Emmy Henline, Asher McCourt, Lincoln Billanti, Jackson Thomas, Chandler Delany, Adeline Delany, Amellia Cochran, Scotty Cochran, Fallon Coots, Octavia Coots, Zach McCourt, Shane McCourt, and Willow McCourt.

Norma was preceded in death by her children Anita McCourt, Lorrie McCourt, Douglas Smith, and her siblings Majorie Donato, Elizabeth Burns, Bonnie Taylor, and Ronald Cogar.
