Larry Cofer Gillespie

Larry Cofer Gillespie, 70, of Cowen, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 3, 1951 in Webster Springs, a son of the late Donald and Eurlace Holcomb Gillespie.

Larry was a retired coal miner, having worked for Smoot Coal and Raydeck coal for over 30 years. He was a United States Army Veteran, earning a bronze star during the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post # 62 and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, digging ramps and just being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his sons, Eric (Angie) Gillespie of Cowen and K.C. (Laney) Gillespie of Virginia, grandchildren, Lane Gillespie, Haley Gillespie, Tristan Gillespie, Angel Gillespie, Hayden Gillespie, great-grandchildren, Johanna, Thatcher and Waylon, sisters, Terri Carpenter of Webster Springs, Drema Gillespie of Braxton County and Deanna Facemire of Charleston.

In addition to his parents, his loving wife Evelyn Gillespie preceded him in death.

Larry’s wishes for cremation have been honored and a gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 until 1:00pm Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post # 62.
