Kevin Dewayne Short, 52, of Camden on Gauley, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. He was born October 5, 1972, in Richwood, a son of Calvin and Martha Prater Short.

Kevin was a 1990 graduate of Webster County High School. He then started his career as a coal miner over the next 30 years working for Massey Energy and Alpha Coal Group. Kevin was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church. He was a great father and provider for his family. Kevin enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, working around the house and spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Lori Short, parents, Calvin and Martha, daughters, Erica Short (Shane Chaffin) and Hailey Short (Casey Dennison), brother Brian (Nova) Short, grandchildren, Mariah, Carson, and Lilly, nephew, Austin and a host of co-workers, extended family and friends are at a loss after his sudden passing.

Paternal grandparents, William (Anna) Short and maternal grandparents, Arden (Christine) Prater preceded him in death.

Service will be held at 3:00pm Friday, July 18, 2025, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow at the Alex Williams Cemetery, Cranberry Ridge, West Virginia. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00pm until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Morris Funeral Home, P.O. Box 267, Cowen, WV 26206.
