Karen "Jean" Prater Thomas,79, born on September 30, 1946, in Erbacon, West Virginia, passed away on November 5, 1946, at WVU United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, West Virginia, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved daughter of Willie Prater and Belecia Tonkin Prater, as well as the cherished sister of Marion "Dimples" Gregory.

A proud graduate of Cowen High School in 1964, Jean dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She was a woman of faith, identifying as Methodist, and her values shone through her everyday interactions and passions. Jean’s hobbies included cooking, baking cakes, and reading, activities that not only brought her joy but also served to enrich the lives of those around her.

Throughout her life, Jean was deeply involved in her community. She held the distinction of being a lifetime member of the Roscoe Miller Unit 62 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a charter member, former president, and current vice president. Her leadership skills were evident when she started a majorette group called the Bravetts, who garnered numerous accolades in competitions, reflecting her commitment to fostering talent and teamwork.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Gary W. Thomas; her daughter, Teresa Thomas, of Fairmont, West Virginia; her daughter, Amy Thomas Rock (Matt) of Canvas, West Virginia; her grandson, Collin Rock of Summersville, West Virginia; as well as several special nieces, neighbors, and friends. She was known for her warmth and generosity of spirit, particularly evident in her time spent working the kitchen with the girls at bingo.

Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and community involvement that will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.

Jean's wishes for cremation will be honored with a memorial service at a later date.
