Hilbert Junior Robinson

Hilbert Junior Robinson, affectionately known as "Hoby," was born on May 2, 1943, in Cowen, West Virginia. He passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the Webster Healthcare Center in Cowen, at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and a passion for music.

Hoby dedicated much of his career to driving coal trucks, a job that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. Beyond his professional life, he found immense joy in music; known for his remarkable ability to play any stringed instrument, Hoby brought joy to many with his musical talent. Alongside music, he cherished moments spent hunting, fishing, and gathering with family and friends.

In 2000, Hoby was ordained as a Baptist Minister, leading him to touch the lives of countless individuals through his preaching. Over the years, he preached at many local churches and revivals, devoting the last eight years of his ministry to Half Acre Baptist Church before stepping down in 2013 due to health issues. His proudest accomplishments included leading people to the Lord, showcasing his unwavering faith and dedication to his spiritual calling.

Hoby's personality was marked by his kindness and willingness to listen and help others. He was not only a man of God but also a great father, leaving a profound impact on his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his son, Hilbert Junior Robinson II (Sherry) of Camden on Gauley; his daughter, Debra Prater of Cowen; his sister, Ruby Wright of Counts, Tennessee; his grandson, Sammy Griffith (Rebecca); great-grandchildren Braidyn Brady, Abbigale Cogar, Emma Prater, Liam Prater, and Ava Prater; as well as many extended church family and friends who cherished his presence.

Hoby was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie Robinson; daughters Juanita Robinson and Genive Robinson; grandson Arden Ray Prater Jr.; sisters Wanda Baughman and Helen Mullens; and brothers Darrell Robinson, Bill Conrad, Maynard Robinson, and Doy Robinson. His loyal dog, Shadow, was also among those who missed him deeply.

A funeral service to honor Hilbert Junior "Hoby" Robinson will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Morris Funeral Home in Cowen, West Virginia, with Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Alex Williams Cemetery, Cranberry Ridge, WV.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00pm until the time-of-service Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends and family are encouraged to share in remembrance of a man who was not only a devoted father and minister but also a beloved musician and friend.
