Gary Lee “Bucky” Mathews

Gary Lee “Bucky” Mathews, 69, of Upper Glade passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 25, 1948 in Philippi, a son of the late Kermit R. and Virginia Dare Wyatt Mathews.

Bucky was a retired U.M.W.A. coal miner having worked for over 37 years at Island Creek and Consolidated Coal Companies. He was a Christian and a member of the Beaver Run Community Church.

Buck had a passion for repairing and restoring antique cars, hunting, mowing grass and spending time watching his grandchildren grow.

He is survived by the love of his life Nancy Bailey Mathews, loving son, Joshua and special daughter in law Jennifer Mathews of Upper Glade, daughters, Heaven (Jason) Yoder of Summersville, Loretta (Charlie) Sanson of Upper Glade, brother, Jinks (Jeralee) Mathews of Anderson, Indiana; grandchildren, Chad (Ashley) Mathews, Adam (Chrystal) Richmond, McKenna Adkins, Lexie Moore, Cole Mathews, Rylee Mathews and Gracee Mathews, great-granddaughters, Alivia Mathews and Adalyn Richmond, special sister and brother in laws, Carol Mathews , of Upper Glade, Jane and George Bennett, of Tallmansville, Judy and Collis Bickford, of Poole, Sue Roberts, of Poole, Joyce and Leon Hosey, of Charleston, Joann and Charles Dickenson of Rock Creek and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, brothers Charles and Louie Mathews preceded him in death.

Service will be 1:00pm. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Doug Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Handschumacher Cemetery, Upper Glade. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 20, 2017 at the funeral home.
