Freda Arlene Armentrout

Freda Arlene Armentrout passed away on June 29, 2026, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kincaid, West Virginia, to Lewis and Edith Newhouse.

We remember and celebrate a woman whose life was defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength. She didn't seek attention yet left a lasting impression on everyone she met through her kindness, her actions, and the deep care she showed for others.

Her life was rooted in the values of farm living-hard work, self-sufficiency, and an appreciation for the simple things. Her home was always a place of welcome; no one ever left hungry. She believed in "setting another plate at the table," not merely as hospitality, but as a way of life. Food was her love language, and her cooking and baking-especially her yeast rolls, home-cooked meals, and desserts-brought people together, where memories were made and stories were shared.

She found joy in tending her garden and preserving its harvest through canning, honoring traditions passed down through generations. Gifted with remarkable creativity, she expressed herself through sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and painting. Each piece she created reflected patience, care, and thoughtfulness, much like the way she lived her life. Reading and working puzzles were pastimes she quietly enjoyed.

Her flower gardens were a reflection of who she was-vibrant, lovingly nurtured, and quietly beautiful-reminders that with care and dedication, even the simplest things can flourish.

Above all, she gave freely of herself to her family, her friends, and her community. She taught those around her the value of kindness, the importance of showing up for one another, and the power of a life lived with humility and purpose.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her legacy lives on-in the traditions she passed down, the lessons she taught without words, and the love that will forever connect us to her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Patsy Ware (Larry), Pam Kessler, and Steve Armentrout (Brooke); nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include her special cousin, Jane Thomas; her "adopted" daughter, Debbie Brammer; Holley; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years William "Bill" Armentrout, her parents, Lewis and Edith Newhouse, her sister, Anna Louise, her parents-in-law, Charles and Laura Armentrout; her son-in-law, Ernie Bell; and her grandson, Benjamin Armentrout.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm at West Virginia Memorial Gardens in Calvin on July 3, 2026, with pastor Linda Dyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Church Food Pantry in Cowen or the Cowen Public Library.
