Franklin James Smith

Franklin James Smith, 77, of Upper Glade passed away peacefully Sunday, March 18, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 20, 1940 in Webster County, a son of the late Guy and Ruth Adamy Smith.

Frank was a retired coal miner, having worked over 38 years for Island Creek Coal company and Oneida Coal. He was a member of the Beaver Freewill Community Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Rosie Smith, children, Paul Sill, Charles (Pam) Smith, Patty Selman, Franklin Smith, Richard (Sarah) Smith, stepson, Jennings Salisbury, sisters, Bess (Ron) Bleed and Louise (Larry) Carpenter. Grandchildren: Ashley Smith, Timothy Smith, Keith Selman, Cody Sill, Jessica Sill, Avery Smith, Lillian Smith, Harper Smith, Jennifer Salisbury, Carrie Salisbury, Susan Fults, April Salisbury, Melinda Salisbury, Justin Salisbury. Great-grandchildren: Payton Selman, EmmaGaye Nicholson, Christian Fults, Morgan Fults, Tayllor Ward, Katana Ward and Jessi Ward

In addition to his parents, brothers, Harry Smith, Russell Smith, Harold Smith, Junior Smith, sisters, Wanda Morrison, Midge Addington, Opal Leiser, Macel Mullins and son in law Dewayne Selman preceded him in death.

Service will be 2:00pm. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Doug Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Handschumacher Cemetery, Upper Glade. Friends may call from 12:00 until time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home.
