Ernest Curtis Squires, Jr.

Ernest Curtis Squires, Jr., 78, of Birch River, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at his home after an extended illness. He was born on July 24, 1945 in Sutton, a son of the late Ernest Squires, Sr. and Arelene Smith Squires.

Ernie was a 1963 graduate of Cowen High School. He was a coal miner for over twenty years and a member of the UMWA. Ernie enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, which always brought a smile to his face.

Surviving is his loving wife, Janet Westfall Squires; children, James (Mary) Squires of South Carolina and Felicia (Ronnie) Groves of Birch River; sister, Mary (Robert) Eratt of Summersville; grandchildren, Lorisa (Cody), Kayleigh (Isaih); Patience, Asya (Jake), Cooper and Trinity; and four great grandchildren, Layla, Harper, Saylor and Carter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jackie James Squires.

Ernie’s wishes for cremation have been honored with no services at this time.
