Edgar Lee “Buddy” Davis

Edgar Lee “Buddy” Davis of Cowen, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 29, 2022 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. A son of the late Ollie and Sarah Manning Davis, he was born November 15, 1943, in Windsor, North Carolina.

Buddy leaves an amazing legacy of love. He was a loving husband, father, papaw, and uncle. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren equally. Everyone who knew Buddy knew his unconditional love. He was especially proud of his granddaughter Carlie, who was the light of his life. He and Carlie had a special bond, she fueled his feistiness and gave him a purpose in life. They were best friends and could not be separated. Buddy loved taking time during his day to work word search puzzles. He would gather his fishing pole and go fishing any chance he could, and he loved going out and finding as many yard sales as he could.

In his earlier years, he was in the National Guard and Army Reserves. He was a skidder operator for more than 15 years, working for Lone Wolfe Forest Products and Lone Wolfe Natural Resources Inc. He worked many years for Tomas Turpin, who was not only his boss, but a man he considered a son, a friend and a mentor. Thomas held a special place in Buddy’s heart.

He is survived by his children, Alice (Michael) Criss of Cowen, Dorothy (Gary) Bender of Upperglade, Freddie (Linda) Wolverton of Conway, North Carolina, Susan (Johnny) Smith of Conway, North Carolina, Carolyn Davis of Pendleton, Johnnie Davis Sr. of Milwaulkee, North Carolina, Shirley (Joe) Vaughn of Menola, North Carolina, Shelia (Steve) Turner of Conway, North Carolina. Siblings, Estelle Durham of Eden, North Carolina, Lettie Pierce of Windsor, North Carolina, Linda Vann of Ahoskie, North Carolina, along with 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews he loved so much.

Along with his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years Carolyn Davis, siblings, Gladys Copeland, Phoebe “Elizabeth” Mirelle, Verna Pierce, Willie Davis Sr., and two grandsons, Austin Wolverton, and Joshua Lee Wolverton.

Services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 12:00pm at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen, with Pastor Doug Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Woods Cemetery, Camden on Gauley, WV. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
