Dorothy Belle Holmes

Dorothy Belle Holmes, 91, of Cowen passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016.

She was born May 7, 1925 in Mountain Home, Arkansas a daughter of the late Homer and Bertha Taylor Giles.
Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Cowen High School and was a former store clerk at Harry Howard’s General Store. She was a member of the Halo Church and was involved in many of the churches activities.

She enjoyed going with the Senior Citizens, helping with the food pantry, gardening, canning, Dorothy was always lending a hand to anyone in need, but most of all she enjoyed raising her family and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years James S. Holmes, daughter, Lora(Bill) Bragg of Cowen, brother, Everett Giles of Sandusky, Ohio, grandchildren, Lance (Sherri) Bragg of Cowen, Amber Markle of Cowen, great-grandchildren, Rayanna Jade Marie Bragg, Riley Markle, Griffin Bragg, Gunnor Bragg, Patience Squires, Asya Squires and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by daughter, Terry Markle, brothers, Frank Giles, O’ Dell Giles, O’Neal Giles, Jack Giles, John “Tinty” Giles and sister Mabel Carpenter.

Service will be 2:00pm. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Larry Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at the Handschumacher Cemetery, Upper Glade.

Friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
