Dessie Mae Hammons

Dessie Mae Hammons, 83, of Craigsville, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Webster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cowen, after an extended illness. She was born September 3, 1937, in Nicholas County, a daughter of the late Esker and Flossie Blankenship Ward.

Dessie was a homemaker, who enjoyed enjoyed crocheting, cooking, tending to her flowers and garden, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dessie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

Surviving are her children, Charles “Richard” Williams of Craigsville, Francis Spinks and companion Mike Barnhouse of Craigsville, Linda “Youvone” and Jimmy Lawson of Craigsville, Betty and Mitchell White of Cowen, Ricky and Mary Hammons of Craigsville, Robert “Junior” and Crystal Hammons of Milton, Barbara and Johnnie Lewis of Cowen, Ralph Hammons of Richwood, along with 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and brothers and sisters who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents, husband Robert Hammons, sons, Robert Carl Hammons, Roger Hammons, and Ray Denzel Hammons preceded her in death

Service will be 12:00 Monday August 9, 2021 at Morris Funeral Home with Pastor Dough Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Alex Williams Cemetery, Cranberry Ridge. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:30 until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
