Denver James Mathes, 71, of Cowen passed away March 1, 2017 at Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born February 3, 1946 the son of the late Denver Everet and Martha Jean Paugh Mathes.
Denver was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam. He worked in the steel mill and for Ford Motor Co. before returning to WV where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic in the coal mines. He loved to trout fish, hunt and camp and enjoyed being in the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Wilson Mathes; Sons, Bobby (Charlotte) Mathes of Cowen and Mike Mathes of Utchville, South Carolina; Brothers: Allen (Marsha) Mathes of Racine, Ohio, and Charles Mathes ; Sisters: Linda (Bob) Hamilton of Newbury, Ohio, Barbara (Ralph) Nolan of Cowen, Carol (Richard) Rowan of Cowen, Martha (Larry) Armentrout of Cowen; Grandchildren: Isaiah, Joshua, Josie, and Jaime Lyn Mathes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Billy Joe Mathes.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:00PM at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen, with Pastors Joe Bragg and Craig Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Oddfellows Cemetery, Cowen.
