Darrell Gray Short

Darrell Gray Short, 79, of Cowen, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at his residence, with family by his side, after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 15, 1945, on Cranberry Ridge, a son of the late Denver Short and Carrie Hammons Short.

Darrell was a retired coal miner and a Christian by faith. He enjoyed coon hunting, spending time with his family, coffee with friends at the Ranch House and loved working with equipment.

Surviving is his wife Marsha Short; children, Johnny Short of Cowen, and Jennifer (Richard) Beckner of Walton, KY; brother, Vic Short; sisters, Linda Newhouse and Zeff Carpenter; grandchildren, Carson Short, Jaymeson Beckner, Cameron Short and Jade Beckner; great grandson Landyn Lawson; niece, Whitney Allen, and many other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his brothers, Alvin, Dana, Denny, Donald and Alden Short and sister, Joy Snyder.

There will be a Memorial Service Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Eulogy by Richard Beckner at 3:00 pm. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Darrell’s wishes for cremation have been honored.
