Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Andrew Kilonsky, 71, of Summersville, formerly of Cowen, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown from complications of Covid-19. Joe took all the precautions and still contracted this deadly virus. Joe would want everyone to know, YES, this is real, so don’t take it lightly. He was born April 20, 1949 in Buffalo, New York, a son of the late Joseph Bernard and Loraine Eich Kilonsky.

Joe was a proud and retired member of the United States Coast Guard with 20 years of service. He received numerous awards and citations during his career. Joe was in charge of the search and rescue at his last duty station. After his retirement, Joe became very involved in youth sports, most especially Little League Baseball and softball. He was a former president and board member of the Cowen Little League and also served as a board member and chief umpire for District 8 Little League. Joe was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Joe gives a final salute to all veterans young and old who have honorably served their country.

Surviving is his best friend and love of his life of 31 years Hilda Selman Kilonsky, children, Joseph Kilonsky of Michigan, Jeffery Kilonsky of Texas, Shawn (Stephany) Carpenter of Camden on Gauley and Jeremy Carpenter of Cowen, brothers, Bernard (Nancy) Kilonsky of Hawaii, John (Nancy) Kilonsky of Buffalo, NY., and Tom (Denise) Kilonsky of Louisiana, grandchildren, Sonya, Summer, Madison, Khloe, Zach, Cody, Spencer and Brookelynne, great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Nirvana and many other friends made during his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Kevin Carpenter, mother and father in law, Joe Clyde and Clora Selman- Debolt and step father in law, Hughey Debolt.

Joe’s wishes for cremation have been honored and a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with full military rites and honors conducted by American Legion Post # 62, Cowen. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:00 until the time of celebration Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post # 62 at P.O. Box 846 Cowen, WV 26206 or the Cowen Little League at P.O. Box 57 Cowen, WV 26206.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, state and CDC guidelines for social distancing and facial coverings are required.
