Basil James Cole

Basil James Cole, 88, of Cowen, passed away November 7, 2017 at Webster County Memorial Hospital. Basil was born July 6, 1929 in Ejerie, WV, a son of the late John Lee and Anzo Meadows Cole. He was a retired UMWA coal miner, having worked over 20 years at the Gauley Mountain Mine.

Basil enjoyed woodworking, tending his bees, cutting wood, planting his garden and enjoying the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Lavaughn Cole, children: James Cole of Cowen, Jean and Mike Feeney of Farmtown Va., and Millie and Steve Cooper, sibling, Jackie Hensley of Harrisonburg, Va., grandchildren: Steve II (Nikki) Cooper and Amber (Jeremy) Reed, and great grandsons, Steve III and James.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Johnny, Harley, and Bobby and sisters Jo Foyt, Minnie Owens, Pauline Fasick, and Cathy Herman.

Graveside service will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 am, at West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin with Evangelist Sam Gwinn officiating. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.morrisfuneralhomecowenwv.com.
