Services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with a euology by Greg Gregory. Burial with full Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #62, will follow at the Hickman Cemetery, Dyer.

Zeph Christian, 95, of Dyer, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 17, 2017 at his residence. He was born March 27, 1921 in Dyer, the son of the late Henry and Carrie Jane “Jennie” Gallogly Christian.

Zeph worked as a logger and coal miner for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a Methodist by Faith. Zeph enjoyed all types of hunting, most especially bear hunting. He was a member of the bear hunter’s club and the Zeph Christian Hunting Lease. Zeph enjoyed western movies, trading, telling stories, singing and playing the guitar. Zeph was often referred to as the “Mayor of Dyer”.

Surviving are his daughters, Jane Bay of Dyer, Mary “Missy” (Steve) McCartney of Cowen, grandchildren, Carrie Lynn (Kenneth)Green, Traci Lynn (Jordan)Dunlap, Stephen McCartney, great-grandchildren, Kya Jane (Jesse) Salisbury, Cynidel Alexis Hardin, Joslynn Grace Casteel, Bentley Robert Castell, Tucker Grant Wamsley, Zaylee Jade Dunlap, great-great grandson, Ayden Dale Salisbury.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Edna O. Johnson Christian; son, Harrison Christian; daughter, Estie Christian; brothers: Lawrence Christian, John Christian, Thurman Christian, Kit Christian; sisters: Myrtle Clevenger, Estie Walker, Opal Christian; daughter in law, Sheila Christian, son in law Phillip Bay and grandson Matthew Zeph Christian.
