Ruby C. Hart, 96, of Cowen, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the Webster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 1, 1923 at Strouds Creek, a daughter of the late Coligna and Mamie Curry Chapman.

Ruby graduated from Cowen High School in 1939 at the age of 16. She went to Fairmont State College for 2 years and obtained a Standard Normal Certificate which allowed her to teach school for 31 years. She taught in 4 one room schools: Roberts, Strouds Creek, Mudlick, and Cranberry Ridge. Her last teaching position was at Camden Grade School. She retired at the age of 49. Mrs. Hart loved teaching and her students. Her students loved her as well. She was a favorite of many young students. After retiring, Ruby spent her time gardening and preserving the food she raised. She loved to quilt and made many quilts for her family.  She enjoyed watching TV, reading and doing word searches. She was an avid WVU and Dallas Cowboy fan.

Surviving are her children, Janet (Jesse) Lucky of Cowen, Ray Hart of Cowen, Jim Hart of Camden on Gauley and Jeanne Derring of Texas, grandchildren, Tammy Hart, Kellie (Ben) Roberts, Michael (Jennifer) Deering, Kevin (Chessica) Lucky,  Craig (June) Lucky, Brad (Amy) Hart, and Brian (Lindsey) Lucky , great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Tristan, Kameron, Maggie, Katie, Bryce, Branden, Hadley Jo, Weston, Nixon, Becka, Shane and Stormie and 4 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husband of 70 years Charles D. Hart, 5 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 3, 2020 at Black’s Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Terry Cunningham officiating.
