Robert Gerald “Jake” Lyons, 79, of Birch River, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 10, 1942 in Fayette County, West Virginia, a son of the late Everett and Nellie Bussey Lyons.

Jake proudly served his country in the United States Army. He helped build US-19 and I-79 as a blaster. He was a retired tipple operator from Brooks Run Coal Company. He enjoyed going to church, working on his farm, and providing for his family. Jake was a simple man who got enjoyment out of helping others in their time of need. He had a soft spot in his heart for his grandchildren but will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Jason (Becky) Lyons of Birch River, Amanda Lyons of Summersville, siblings, John (Colleen) Lyons of Richwood, Carolyn (Jerry) Dennison of Florida, Judy (Ed) Carpenter of Oak Hill, Linda (Gary) Ishenhart of Cottle, grandchildren, Jacob, Jarod, Kenzie, Isaiah, Bella, great-grandchildren, Jaci, Raelynn, Kimi, Elle Joy and many former mining buddies and church family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorene Lyons, son, Robert “Brian” Lyons, brothers, David Lyons, Walter Lyons, Hubert Lyons, and Frank Lyons.

Service will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday March 30, 2022, at Morris Funeral Home Cowen, with Pastor Lynn Scheifer and Jacob Lyons officiating. Burial with full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 62 will follow at the Lyons Family Cemetery, Birch River. A gather of family and friends will be held from 12:00pm until time of service Wednesday at Morris Funeral Home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to caregivers, Tammy, Trena, Casey, Katie Mae, and Riley, for the loving care they provided to Jake during his illness.
