Military Rites will be presented by VFW Post 8614 and American Legion Post 62. Friends may call from 5:00pm until time of the service at the funeral home. Ray Edward Jackson, 84, of Craigsville passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Webster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 14, 1934, in Elizabeth WV, a son of the late Edward and Naomi Kidder Jackson.

Ray was a graduate of Kenwood High School, MD and Towson State University. He held a Masters Degree and was a teacher for 27 years. He taught history, work with children with special needs and finished his teaching career as a Guidance Counselor. Following retirement from teaching, he owned and operated a Driving School in Maryland for 24 years. He then retired to West Virginia.

Ray was a descendant of Stonewall Jackson and as a child lived at Jackson’s Mill in Weston, WV. He is a veteran of the US Army. He loved playing cards and chess.

He is survived by his wife Birdie Dell Jackson; Children: John Jackson of Kingsville, MD, Shawn Jackson of Kingsville, MD, Leslie Tompkins Powless (Doug) of Kingsville, MD, David Rader (Gail) of Dundulk, MD, Gary Rader of Baltimore, MD, Gaige Loman Rader of Craigsville, WV, Mary Rader of Stuart, Va, and David Rader II (Dawn) of Dundulk, MD; Siblings: Ronald Jackson (Donna) of Florida and Sara Eccleston (George) of Pa. Grandchildren: Ashley Miranda, Gary Rader II, Cassidy Tompkins, Riley Tompkins, Noah Tompkins, and Brittany Shinaberry. Great Grandchildren: Blaire Miranda, Chloe Miranda and Liam Shinaberry.
