Services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Mark Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen. Friends may call from 12:00 until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, following state and CDC guidelines for social distancing and face coverings is required.

Michael Dewayne Gillespie Jr., 41, of Cowen, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born April 4, 1979 in Webster Springs a son of Nancy Barnette Cogar and the late Michael Dewayne Gillespie Sr.

Michael was a former employee of McDonalds and also worked at Perrine’s sawmill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and hanging out with friends.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by step-father, Randy Cogar, 4 children, sister, Melanie Gillespie, nephew, Shane Cogar, niece, Rachelle (Emmett) Henry, great-nephews, Emmett Henry iii and Grant Henry along with many aunts, uncles and friends.

His father, grandparents, Otis and Marjorie Barnette and Harold “Rocky” and Mary Ledsome preceded him in death.
