Services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen, with Pastor Steve White and Brother Larry Armentrout officiating.  Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 pm until the time of the service, Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Michael David Tharp, of Erbacon, WV, passed away unexpectedly at his home on, April 11, 2023.

Michael was born on November 23, 1950, to the late Myrtle and Jake Tharp. He was preceded in death by grandson Joshua Given; brother Gaylord; sisters Katherine, Doris, and Shirley; nephews Tommy Sims and Allen Lee; and niece Jamie Bess.

Michael is survived by children Andy Tharp, Timothy (Mary) Tharp, and Christina (Rodney) Travis; grandchildren, Courtney (Patrick) Hilton, Cassey (Cody) Clevenger, Maverick and Jazzmyne Travis, Issac Hamrick, and Sophia Muller-Tharp; great grandchildren, Jeremie, Eli, Canaan, Harper Cogar, Jensen Hilton, and Jackson Clevenger; brother Ralph (Patty) Tharp, sister Barb LaCourse, and brother-in-law Bobby Lee; as well as, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Michael graduated from Cowen High School. He had several occupations throughout his years, such as coal miner, mechanic, newspaper press, bar owner, and truck driver. Michael joined the Army, 101st Airborne Division, in his later years.

Michael enjoyed telling stories, sharing jokes with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He also enjoyed taking trips with family and friends to Tennessee, bike rides, and side by side rides. Michael enjoyed being outdoors and working on his “newest” project, his 1972 GMC pick-up.

Michael was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge.
