Larry Richard Sandy, 79, of Bolair, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was born August 16, 1937 in Bolair, a son of the late Ulyssis Grant Sr. and Nellie Rose Mustoe Sandy.

Larry was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Company, he also served as a Commissioner for Webster County for 12 years. Larry was a 1956 graduate of Webster Springs High School, a U.S. Army Veteran and attended Sand Run Baptist Church. He loved working on the family farm, hunting and making knives.

Surviving are his children Eddy (Tammy) Sandy of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jennifer (Mike) Cowger of Beckley; brother, Charles Robert Sandy of Salem, Virginia; sisters, Shirley Ann Tyree of Illinois, Barbara Strickland of Hampton, Virginia, Patricia Rice of Bolair; grandchildren, James Corbit Phares, Joshua Edward Sandy, Brandon Scott Sandy, John Michael Cowger, Jacob Olen Cowger, great-grandchildren, Dorian Jackson Sandy, Phoena Jillian Sandy, and Bethany June Sandy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Gloria Faye Miller Sandy, brother, Ulyssis Grand Sandy Jr., and sister, Majiasty Capps.
