Kenneth Ray Mathes Sr., 57, of Cowen, passed away unexpectedly Friday June 30, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born December 31, 1964, in Cowen, West Virginia, a son of Kenneth and Barbara Dempsey Mathes.

He spent numerous years as an auto mechanic and was able to work on anything with a motor. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, shooting pool, hunting, bowling, setting in town and watching traffic, fishing, and having social drinks. He was a member of the Cowen Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years.

Along with his mother Kenneth is survived by his companion for over 30 years Jenny Given,  children, Kenneth Mathes Jr. of Cowen, Danielle Francis of Laken, Ryan Mathes of Cowen, and Wesley Hice of Camden on Gauley, siblings, Junior Mathes of Upperglade, Crystal Mathes of Bolair, Michelle Mathes of Cowen, grandchildren, Levi, Jordan, Trenton, Emma, Alivia, and Roscoe the dog.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Mathes.

Kenneth’s wishes for cremation have been honored and a memorial service will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 at 11am at Morris Funeral Home Cowen, with Pastor Doug Martin officiating. Family and friends may call from 10am until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.
