Kay F. McAvoy Cole Clay, 82 years and 20 days, of Pleasant Ridge, entered into rest at her home on August 31, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Clay, parents Thomas H. and Lucy P. Wright McAvoy. Siblings, Helen (Dex) Hastings, Leafy (Teddy) Lemley, June Steele, Lenore (Jean) Cunningham, Mary Bell, Claire McAvoy, Lowell T. McAvoy, Lloyd A. McAvoy and Mac McAvoy. Great grandson Phillip Skylar Cooper, Son-in-law James “Jim” Delaney.

She is survived by her children, Millie (Steve) Cooper and Marsha Hardway Delaney; grandchildren, Aaron (Carrie) Hardway, Lewis (Jessica) Hardway, Steve (Nicki) Cooper II, Amber (Jeremy) Cooper Reed, great grandchildren, Steven (Stevie), James, Trinity, Anabella (Bella), Wendell, and several nieces and nephews.

Kay was born and raised on the home farm, a land grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia, with a deed written on a sheepskin. She resided on eighteen acres of the original farm. She attended Pleasant Ridge School until it burned and then Cowen High School. Kay, a homemaker, built her life around God and family. She had a great love of music and came from a family, who played multiple musical instruments. Kay was a member of the Living Church of God. She loved gardening and food preserving, baking and sewing. She was a great cook and beautiful seamstress. She loved to camp, picnic, and have cookouts. Kay loved history and old things. She had a rich history of old songs and stories she was told by parents and grandparents all born in the 1800’s.

Kay left a personal message as follows “I want to thank everyone who has stood by me and helped me. God Bless You.”
