Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Pastor Joan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at the Bowers Family Cemetery, Cowen. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday, March 26, 2021 at the funeral home.

Janet Carol Bowers, 87, surrounded by family as she left this physical world to be with our heavenly father, Tuesday March 23, 2021. Though her love and memories will live on in our hearts forever, she will be missed beyond words.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Berling Stewart Bowers (aKa B.S.) son, Charles Edward Bowers, daughter, Rita Jean Bowers Gilkeson and granddaughter, Elissa Faith Sigley.

She is survived by her two sons, Ernest L. Bowers of Cowen and James Wesley Bowers of Morgantown. Three daughters, Susan Sigley and husband Curtis of Richwood, Josephine Bowers of Dale City, Virginia, Ellen Kay Selman (aKa Sam) and husband Billy Selman of Fredericksburg, Virginia, sister, Roma Jean and husband Paul Miller of Cowen, grandchildren, Stacy Hayhurst, Lacy Gilkeson, Kayla Bowers, David Cunningham, Lisa Gailliot, Kim Hayhurst, Travis Selman, Andrew Selman, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was retired from the Webster County Board of Education with over 20 years of service. She volunteered with many hours at Kamp-Kno-Koma, Cowen Garden Club, Webster County Homemakers, Habitat for Humanity, Camp Caesar, Twice as Nice (aKa Quarter Store), Food Pantry, Church, Concession Stand at Webster County High School, Webster County Fair, Special Fundraising Dinners, Nature Tour, Bike – a – Thon, Ramp Feeds and the American Red Cross. Janet enjoyed her family, she loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone who knew her called her Granny and no one left hungry when she was around. She was a wonderful cook, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
