Service will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Morris Funeral Home, Cowen with Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cowen. Friends may call from 12:00 until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen Corene Mathes, 88, of Cowen passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown after a short illness. She was born January 10, 1932 on Cranberry Ridge a daughter of the late Charlie and Thelma Simmons Powers.
Corene was a homemaker and a Methodist by Faith. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking “ if you left granny’s house hungry it was your own fault” and spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children Jim (Liz) Mathes and Bernard (Arletta) Mathes both of Cowen, siblings, Edith Harmon, Anna Morrison, Mildred Snyder, Karen Martin, Bob Powers and Jim Powers, grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Fleming, Jimmy (Andrea) Mathes, Kalenn (Lisa) Nemoto and Sara Mathes, great-grandchildren: Marissa, Jaden, Korey, Cailey, Cambrea, Kenady and Cameron and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents her loving husband of over 65 years Grover Mathes, brothers, Bill Powers, Chuck Powers, Bernard Powers and Wayne Powers preceded her in death.
